Code Crew: Mission Commander (Grade 6 and up)
Leading the mission.
Code Crew: Mission Commander is the post-K-to-5 chapter of the rank ladder. Students step into real Python: files, modules, libraries, and projects worth showing off. The 12 missions build from short scripts (hello, file IO, a stopwatch) up to a small command-line tool kids ship and demo. Expect 25 to 40 minutes a session here, longer than the K to 5 norm. One overview entry today; future revisions may split Grades 6, 7, and 8 into separate courses.
What your kid will learn
- Read and write real Python files in a real editor
- Use a standard library module (datetime, random, json)
- Install and use a third-party package safely
- Read structured data from a file, transform it, write it back
- Build a small command-line tool that solves a real problem
- Use git to save snapshots of work in progress
10 to 15 minutes a day, four or five days a week. Pairs with the matching Code Crew print workbook when it ships.
